Massimo Pavan
Self-taught Rotterdam ceramist exploring basic geometric forms through repetition and scale in stoneware and porcelain.
Instagram →Massimo Pavan is a self-taught ceramist based in Rotterdam. In 2020, he opened his own studio, where he began developing a personal approach to working with clay - from stoneware to porcelain - and sharing his knowledge to others. He focuses on basic geometric shapes, using repetition and scale to explore and emphasize their forms. Repetition allows small variation to appear over time. By repeating the same form, he creates a rhythm that highlights subtle changes and builds a visual language that evolves with each piece. Scale draws attention to the shape’s simple, abstract structure and creates a stronger visual impact. Together, the exaggeration of repetition and scale transforms these basic forms, making them more engaging and encouraging a deeper look at their simplicity and structure, all while embracing the challenges posed by the unique qualities of clay.
