José María Mariscal

José María Mariscal is a Spanish ceramic artist and master potter from Catalonia, internationally recognised for his refined porcelain forms and pioneering work with crystalline glazes. Born in La Bisbal d'Empordà into a family of potters, he began working on the wheel as a teenager under the guidance of his father, and developed his own studio practice from the early 2000s. His work combines technical precision on the wheel with a deep fascination for luminous crystalline surfaces and elegant forms.

A member of the International Academy of Ceramics, Mariscal has taught workshops across Europe, the United States and Australia, becoming one of the leading contemporary voices in crystalline ceramics. In 2013 he co-organised Cristalls2013 in La Bisbal d'Empordà, Spain's first international conference dedicated to crystalline glazes. Alongside his studio practice, he is widely respected as an educator, known for sharing advanced throwing and glaze techniques with ceramic artists worldwide.
